The NHL University of Applied Sciences, located in Leeuwarden The Netherlands (NL) is a medium sized multi-sectoral University of Applied Sciences with approximately 10.000 students and approximately 1100 staff members. The University consists of 4 Faculties:

·         Technology

·         Economics and Business

·         Health medicine and Life sciences

·         Education & Communication

The Faculty of Education and Communication offers BA and Masters teacher training programmes  for 15 different secondary school subjects, organized in three departments (Language, Science and Social Studies) offering education to a total of 1650 Bachelor students and 200 Master students. All bachelor programmes were accredited in 2010, the Master programmes were accredited in 2009.

The teacher training department has an active regional network of approximately 40 secondary and 60 primary schools which offer internship opportunities to student teachers during all four years of their studies. In addition a number of these partner schools function as professional development schools, which means that they are actively involved in training students to become competent secondary school teachers.
