Agalia Elpidas (Cyprus)
“Agalia Elpidas” [Embrace of Hope] “Pan Cyprian Organization “Agalia Elpidas” for parents and friends of children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities” is a Cyprus, non-governmental, non-profit organization, founded in August 2008, (Charity Reg. No 235146).
Agalia Elpidas actively advocates the human and social rights of children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and other disabilities, whilst promoting a holistic approach for their integration and full participation in society and access to public procedures, in order to help them determine their future. The Organisation was formed to fill the gap in existing and non-existing structures in early diagnosis and intervention, rehabilitation, education, therapy, daily care, etc. It monitors existing legislation and services and intervenes to lobby for improvements therein, whilst working to raise awareness for CP in society.
Agalia Elpidas commands wide respect from Civil Society organizations especially from the cluster of disabled persons’ organisations. It works closely with governmental agencies, parliamentary committees and members, Universities (European University of Cyprus, University of Cyprus) and maintains a dialogue with local authorities (at municipal and regional level). Its activities are financially supported by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Culture whilst its two annual seminars were held under the auspices of the Cyprus’s First Lady.
